This is so mind blowing that I am writing a blog post on a website which markets clothes I designed - crazy!
Being my own boss has been a dream since I was a little girl when I made an "office" out the kitchens windowsill. I have known for a very long time that one day I would run my own company. I have never been too sure where life would take me or what I had a huge passion for, but running my own business is one thing I have always been certain on.
I grew up in South Wales in the middle of absolutely nowhere, where my dad ran a family business and my brother, sister and I caused havoc for my mum. Country clothes have always taken over my wardrobe but I never seemed to have anything I could wear in the field and out and about too. Hence my designs of the unisex rugby jerseys.
My first jersey designs came to life in 2020, just before I went to uni and nothing ever came of them until October of 2021. I bought a company name, started creating a website and drew some more mock ups, still nothing ever came of it- until now.
In May of this year I took a month out of uni, jobs and internships to knuckle down and focus on Tuesday. What an incredible time it has been! Everyday I wake up with the biggest smile on my face and the motivation to achieve the best that I can. This feeling I currently have and the excitement towards Tuesday. is one that I believe every person should feel towards their job.
It takes a lot of guts to launch a start-up and I highly commend anyone who gives it a go!
Below are my hints, tricks and advice on what to do and not do when thinking of launching a company:
JUST DO IT - From buying the company name on Companies House to sitting down and actually having the time and energy to put everything I have towards Tuesday. was a good year and a half. Focus is so important and you need to be 100% dedicated to your business. It requires nurture, risk, bravery, love and A LOT of attention. It truly is like having a child.
Do As Much Of It Yourself - It is crucial that you plan out how much money you will need to launch your company. Don't be naive and think it won't be that much. Costs spring up from all over the place (postage, marketing packages e.g newsletters, website subscriptions, online accounting services...). Please please plan in advance and be aware that there are a lot of businesses out there who seem to be offering the world, but they just want your £££. Youtube and Google have been my new best friends these past couple of months- there is everything on there!
Your Team - The people who support you should never go unrecognised! Be it family, friends, manufacturers, accountants, social media supporters and anyone else in-between, give as much time as you can to your team. My dad has a saying which has been my favourite since I was a little girl, "Be kind to those on the way up, because you don't know who you'll need on the way back down".
Listen - This has to be the toughest point for me because I'm not always good at taking positive criticism, but it is so important. When someone who loves you and what you're doing offers a different opinion, take it onboard. Listen to what's happening in your market, what competitors or inspirational companies are doing. Listen to global trends and advice from other individuals. Listening and acknowledging what's going well and, what more importantly, isn't going well for you, will steer you in the right path.
Have Fun!!! - If you love what you're doing, I guarantee that it will shine through your business!! Sure, it can be stressful, but it should be fun in the process.
Thank you to all of you for supporting me, be it by kind words, buying a product, messages or even taking the time to read this. I really do appreciate it.
Have an awesome day.
Love and hugs,
Tuesday Roberts x
